Therapy Wish List

I've been working on a wish list of items I would like to purchase. Since I will be working mostly with the Pre-K kiddos, my materials will focus on that age group. This is honestly more of a list for me than anything since I find it hard to keep everything straight without writing it down.

1. Mr. Potato Head (and perhaps a Mrs. Potato Head if I can find one).

2. Crocodile Dentist (can be found on Amazon.com). Kids K-5 and even some middle schoolers loved playing with this!

3. Barn set with animals and people

4. Some kind of road carpet that I can use for spontaneous language activities. I'll have to look at the thrift store for something like this.

Do you have any other ideas about some great materials for the Pre-K kiddos? If so, leave me a comment! Thanks!

  4. Other MUST haves I've found for PK kiddos....
    1. golf club set (I got mine for $5 at walmart a few years ago)...
    2. playdough and just use cookie cutters rather than buying expensive sets yet!...
3-4. TWISTER and POTATO HEAD (found an AWESOME huge set of reg. potato heads and babies at Sam's Club a few years ago) are a MUST MUST MUST...so many movement games you can do with twister, and Potato head is a great body parts, directions and reinforcer activity...
    5. small cars (boys MUST have them)...also at the $ store you can find so many fun (nerf like guns)....I use poster putty and put target cards around my room and they try to "hit" them...whether they miss or hit...they practice the card they were aiming at...
    6. boxes!!!! (yes plain old boxes...3, 4, 5 year olds love to play pretend in and with boxes...I've used then for vet's office, drs. office, grocery store, flower shop, etc.)...
    7. fake food! Lots and lots of eating of fake foods...
8-9. Tempra paint (washable paint for crafts and such...I always ALWAYS have baby wipes on hand for fun messy therapy)AND shaving cream!

Other goodies that are important to get along the way:
    *farm and farm animals
    *dolls and doll house
*doctor's kit (you can bring in an old first aid kit you have at home to start with if you can't find a drs. kit cheap but I found one on sale at walmart before Christmas a few years back)
*bingo chips with metal bingo wands...so fun for these kids to watch the chips get picked up by the "magic wand" (that's what we call it!)

These are some goodies I found necessary for fun exciting therapy! :)
Oh PK is so fun to work with!!! I hope you LOVE it!

  5. Love the website and good luck during your CF! Have you tried looking at thrift stores or Goodwill for materials? Or asking family/friends/church/or other community members for toys they may no longer be using (or your mom if she still has any of the Fisherprice toys from when you were little?). The older toys are sometimes better than the new toys! Also, some books are great tools to integrate into therapy for the little ones...like The Very Hungry Caterpillar or any Dr. Seuss Book! Good luck!
