For Materials Monday I have created a book that targets pronouns, expanding sentences using sentence strips, prepositions, labeling objects, and using pronoun + verb-ing (all fabulous Pre-K language goals).
(Please forgive the quality of the pictures - I took them using my iPad)
Fun at the Beach! is a little book about kids Jack and Mary. They travel to the beach, and they find a lot of cool objects as they explore the sandy shore.
Included in the download is the book, sentence strip, pronouns - he, she, they, and the various objects that Jack and Mary found during their trip.
The story is simple to follow. The instructions (included in the download) can be a bit confusing, so I took pictures to show you exactly what I'm talking about.
1. Print out everything and laminate. Print the objects page a second time (if you desire) so that you have the objects for the sentence strip.
2. Bind the book.
3. Cut out all objects and attach velcro. Create the sentence strip:
4. Attach the objects to each corresponding page in the book. Take a look at what I mean below:
Do you see how I include a velcro-ed copy of the picture on each page? This is so that the student can follow the preposition prompt (for example, put the snorkel next to Jack). The student can manipulate the object as needed.
5. Attach the people to their designated spaces for the "they" portion. Take a look to see what I mean:
It is hard to tell, but if you look close you should be able to see that the people are actually velcro-ed on over the printed people. This is so that the people can either go above, below, in, under, etc. the object. See below:
Just a little tip:
When I use the sentence strip I also include a cut out of the boy and the girl so that the student can visually see "he", "she", and "they". I place these kid pictures just above the sentence strip and take one away or show one depending on which pronoun I am targeting (i.e. for "she" I would obviously have the girl out above the sentence strip).
I hope this post is helpful as you create your pronoun book. I know my students will enjoy it, and I hope yours do as well!
