Multiple Choice Articulation is a new app from Erik X. Raj, M.S., CCC-SLP. It targets the following sounds: /s/, /z/, /r/, /l/, /sh/, /th/, and /ch/.
The app is pretty easy to use. You simply select which phoneme you would like to work on and then get started! The page prompts the student with a question. Either the student or the SLP can read the question aloud, but it is best to focus on using complete sentences when giving an answer.
Once you select a phoneme to work on, you are given further choices:
I know there are a lot of SLPs out there that focus on /r/ (I have four middle schoolers on my caseload with /r/ goals right now), so I'll show you a few samples from the /r/ page.
Once you select the specific target, you will get a page that looks like this:
You can see that the /r/ words are bolded to draw attention to that specific word. On this page there are also buttons that allow the student to hear the question again or to hear a sample answer to help generate his or her own answer. The next button will take you to a new question, and the back button will take you to a previous question.
Overall, it's a really simple app to use. My middle schoolers enjoyed it because some of the questions are quite silly. Take a look at the example below:
Pros: I love that this app is so simple. It's fun and engaging, and it keeps the students thinking. I also like that it's made for more sentence-level or conversation-level goals.
Cons: I would like to see some sort of data collection feature on the app. Or at the least, I would like to see some pictures. I think that would be a pretty neat upgrade.
I would highly recommend this app to all SLPs!
You can purchase Multiple Choice Articulation in the iTunes store here: Multiple Choice Articulation App. It's currently $9.99.
