Introducing Articulation Bugs!
Instructions:
1. Print the download.
2. Laminate the bugs.
3. Cut out the bugs.
4. Purchase some fly swatters (you can usually find these from the dollar store).
5. Drop some bugs on the ground. Have the student say the word before they swat the bug.
Variations:
- You can have students race! The student who says all of the words correctly and swats the fastest is the winner!
- Have the student race against the clock (this is better if the student requires 2-3 corrections before the bug can be swatted).
The download includes initial, medial, and final /k/, /g/, and /s/.
If you would like me to create more Articulation Bugs with other phonemes, let me know! You can leave a comment or send me an email!
Aren't they just adorable?
Download the freebie here: Articulation Bugs!
Note: I also have plans to create Articulation Bugs using pictures instead of words (pictures will be easier for the preschoolers). Let me know if you would like me to post a copy of the picture version.
Clip Art was downloaded from MyGrafico.
Very cute idea Brea. I love the Bugs they are very cute. I also like how I'll be able to pick and choose which words to use on any given day. For instance, when I first start Cycles with my kids, I won't use words like "cat," "coat," or "toss" because those words typically have the child's process in them. But, for those kids that have progressed to not worrying about co-articulation or facilitation or working on carry-over they will be great.
ReplyDeleteI can see some great sentences coming out of this activity too! I'd love to see the picture version if you post it. I think it'd be awesome.
Thanks for sharing!
Mary
I will post the picture version, and I also had an email asking for /r/ and /l/ bugs. These versions will be posted tomorrow!

ReplyDeleteGreat idea-- I would love to see /f/ and /s/ blends bugs!! Thanks Brea!!
ReplyDeleteAdorable! Is there a blank bug template? I am thinking some of my kiddos who need some extra engagement could write the word on the laminated bug with dry erase.
ReplyDeleteKaren, send me an email. Thanks! :)

ReplyDeleteHi Samantha, I will need your email to send you the blank version! Email me at bre881@gmail.com. :)
DeleteI have a 3 1/2 year old son who is in speech therapy (mainly articulation issues). His speech therapy has been rare as of late because we have had bad weather and either he has been sick, or his therapist. Needless to say it was cancelled again today!! I didn't want to let another few days (weeks! argh!) go by without specific speech exercises for him. I printed these out and cut them apart. I put one down at a time and he hit it with a beach shovel AFTER he said the word (we didn't have a fly swatter and I was coming up with something last minute!). He absolutely LOVED this "game"!!! It was a big hit, haha. We did /k/ initial sounds. Will try /g/ initial sounds later (he says both correctly in the middle/end position... just not initial). Anyway - wanted to give you feedback how you saved the day today and say thanks!! I really appreciate the free printables!! :)
ReplyDeletecould i have the blank version?
